A Different Kind of Psychiatric Practice

At Beacon Psychiatry, my goal isn’t to fit you into a category and hand you a prescription. It’s to understand your life, your history, and what’s actually going on before anything else. I take a slow, collaborative approach to psychiatric care, one that makes room for complexity, asks better questions, and respects your right to be fully involved in your own treatment.

Whether you’re navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, ADHD, bipolar disorder, or psychosis, or whether you’ve been on medications for years and are wondering if things could look different, this practice is built for people who want something more considered.

You Are More Than Your Diagnosis

I’m Dr. Swapnil Gupta, and I offer thoughtful, unhurried psychiatric care for people who want more than a prescription and a 10-minute follow-up. I see patients in person in Beacon, NY and via telehealth across New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist, licensed in NY, NJ and CT, practicing since 2013. I completed psychiatric residency training for three years in India and subsequently for another four years at SUNY Downstate and Yale School of Medicine.

Why People Choose Beacon Psychiatry

I have over 15 years of experience, including faculty roles at Yale School of Medicine and Mount Sinai, where I led the largest outpatient psychiatric clinic in New York City for five years. I’ve been quoted in The New Yorker and interviewed by Carlat Psychiatry, Mad in America, and SMI Advisor. I’m board-certified, licensed in New York, Connecticut and New Jersey, and the author of the first book on psychiatric deprescribing.

But the credentials are only part of it. When you sit down with me, you have my full attention. I speak Hindi and Tamil in addition to English, I identify as queer, and I’ve built a practice that genuinely welcomes people from all backgrounds, including LGBTQIA+ patients and those who have felt unseen or over-medicated elsewhere.

This is a small, intentional practice. That’s the point.
